Q. For example, you believe that children should be taught that sex is not inherently bad, and I agree. But are you prepared to live in a school system where the majority of parents disagree and decide instead that children in sex education programs should be taught that sexual activity is inherently sinful?? What if an area strongly believed that interracial dating was wrong, and decided that should be taught in school? Why? Do you live in a school system which teaches that head on collisions are fun in driver's ed? Isn't the idea that driver's ed be taught in schools an invitation to this kind of idea?
A. I don't know about where you live, but in Michigan Driver's Education is not REQUIRED of individuals. It is offered, but is completely optional, and in fact where I lived many people got driver's licenses without ever going to driver's education. And of course you ignore the real sticking point. If we go to a community and hold an open discussion inviting the townspeople there, their disagreements about proper driving techniques are going to vary, but only slightly. Their views on sexuality and religion are going to vary enormously. There is largely a community consensus established on driving, while only extremely homogenous communities are going to agree even moderately on religion and sex.
