I know why we have to have contiuing Education
Q. Doesn't it seem like someone has found a way to get more of this out of us.O.K. Now everyone who has gotten more money or even respect from their employers for continuing to educate themselves in the field of radiology, raise their hands..
A. I do recall that many employers encouraged continuing education and others did not. It was really no different than it is now. But with the emergence of quality assurance in mammography, I see x-ray departments offering more in-house CE programs, purchase of videos, etc. etc. in other areas besides mammography. Yesterday and today, many employers do help the techs with continuing ed, and many techs I have observed to not wish to participate in in-house programs, even if there is no cost. Many "technicians" consider continuing education as an intrusion and as a bother. Many of us "techs" consider CE part of our continued growth and an important way to keep current. There are those who want to continually learn and those who are content to stand pat. I might add that then and now, many hospitals gave reimbursement for credit course work to techs for increasing their knowledge. So yes, Russ, many hospitals prior to and after 1982 did encourage techs to get CE. But that is not the case everywhere.
