Q. I am interesting to get G.E.D. to do a further study in undergrad in USA, I found this site: http://www.belfordhighschool.com/index.asp I'm not sure that they are diploma mill or not, so could you pls kindly tell me... Also, is there any website that I can check that the accredited school for GED? and lastly, if I ordered from this site, can I use this certificate to apply to University in USA?
A. Belford is accredited only by the International Accreditation Agency for Online Universities (IAAOU) and Universal Council for Online Education Accreditation (UCOEA). That's not a good sign. To be sure, though, you should write or email the Admissions Office of whatever US university that you plan on entering and ask them. Just Google the university for the address. For example, see http://www.indiana.edu/~iuadmit/international/welcome/ for the address of Indiana University's Admissions Office for International Students IF you are outside of North America, you should be aware that American universities normally do not expect international students to have a GED, which is supposed to be a qualification equivalent to an American high-school diploma. (I'm not even sure that it is possible to take the GED exam outside the US and Canada.) They will usually look instead for whatever qualification prepares you for university admission in your home country, plus an acceptable score on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and usually the same exams they require (SAT, etc.) for American students seeking admission. Then of course you go through the particular university's application procedure, with a written or online application and possibly an interview. If you are in the USA or Canada, you should be aware that free or low-cost preparation for the GED exam is available through your local public schools.
