Ged Test

Q. I am a college student, and my major is nursyng. My problem is that I took the GED test in Spanish because I did not know English two years ago. With that test I can only get an AS degree, but I really want a bachelor degree. My question is Can I take the test twice?

A. Don't you have to take the TOEFL if your native language isn't English to earn a BA/BS at most schools if English isn't your native language? I'm not sure what the GED has to do with going on to finish a BA/BS after finishing an associates. They don't care about how well you did on the GED after going to college; they just want to know you have it. You don't say whether or not you are a naturalized US citizen or what (I'll simply assume that English is not your native language and you were born/reared outside the US). My understanding is that if English is not your native language, you'll probably have to take the TOEFL for admission to most four-year schools. I'd highly suggest finding out some definitive info on this from a college counselor or someone at the school you want to transfer to. Especially if you are going into health care, those schools are now pretty concerned about their graduates being able to speak and write excellent English and understanding written and verbal med orders. It's one thing to mess up a quarterly report as a business person because one's English isn't so hot; it's altogether much more serious (possibly deadly) if you mess up or misunderstand a med order.
