Ged Test DatesQ. The primary job of the Teacher's Unions is to get maximum pay and benefits for teachers while minimizing the amount of work and responsibility. This is the goal of all unions. The reason I thought the teachers union was behind America falling behind other countries in test scores etc, was based on a program I saw on 60-minutes or 20/20. (One of those programs) Anyway, they wanted to pass some type of legislation that would require 'all teachers' be able to pass a GED-test (Go figure) Some African American teachers said that it was racist. So I guess the teachers union stepped in and had the legislation abolished. Why would they do that? Shouldn't any high school teacher be able to pass a standard GED-Test? I'm in Highschool and some of my teachers are as dumb as a box of rocks. A. America did not "fall behind" other countries. The countries that are ahead of us have probably been ahead of us for decades (read about the "Sputnik" crisis in education in 1957, when the US realized that it was behind the Soviet Union in science and math education). In many cases, they have centrally planned (i.e. socialist) education systems (and teacher unions), state testing that denies choices to students and parents, and sometimes exclude kids who don't measure up due to disabilities. In some countries, they can enforce harsh discipline over the objections of parents. Lack of freedom can lead to better test scores, but most Americans value their freedom. You may as sharp as a pin, but 5 years after you leave school, it is likely that you wouldn't be able to pass a GED either. People forget things that they don't actively use, so a math teacher will likely forget their history and a history teacher forget their math. Meanwhile many high school grads could not pass a GED in the first place - you graduate high school by passing sufficient classes, which you can do with a 60% grade in some schools. Even if you retained all information from that class, a 60% grade will probably not pass the GED, and as noted, teachers are several years away from some of those classes. Finally, teachers in most states are ALREADY required to pass some sort of competency test in order to get their credential. Under Bush's NCLB law, most of them need even higher qualifications, including a degree in the subject that they are teaching. Other Questions : Ged Test PrepIam interested if I can get my G.E.D.
