Ged CommunityQ. Student is 17.5 years, starting junior year. Already knows everything he will learn over next two years. Trying to decide whether to go through the steps for homeschooling, or just have him take the GED and enroll in college for Spring. In CA and under 18, when he passes GED, can he just tell his school he is not coming anymore? If we homeschool, does he have to spend two years in homeschooling? I assume when he reaches 18 he can just stop going to high school if he chooses. A. In California, they have an exam called the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE), you could also look into that for early admission into a California College. I've known several Home School and Public School students that have taken that in order to "graduate early." Its not a well advertised program in the Public School system, even though they are the ones that administer it. Some Community Colleges will also take "under age" students and as we found out, once you've enrolled there, they usually don't need a HS diploma later. You can then transfer your community college credits to another institution. See what your community college enrollment requirements really are (suggest you do it in person, as the ones you get on the phone are usually not as able to think outside the box). These are just the options that I'm familiar with, there could be others. Sort of like all that grant money not being awarded because no one knows about it.
