About Free Training CoursesQ. Can anyone recommand a good Learning/Referance book for Red Hat? I have been using "Linux The Complete Reference" pulished by Linux Systems Labs which seem very good but out of date. I when to Linux Sys labs to see if they had a more up to date edition & they hada thing call "The Complete Red Hat Linux Training Course" & written by "Mark F. Komarinski" wow I thought this is just what I need. Well after paying out about $90USD for it I got it & am very dissapointed with it as after I installed the so called Complete Training Course it "assumed" you have a very good knowledge of Linux" So I am back to square 1 so does anyone have a good suggestion for a book??? Please no "idiot's or Dummie guides" I have a bit of an idea about Linux but have a lot of gaps I need to fill/learn. A. Sounds like you're pretty remote, mate. Red Hat has available for download in three different formats three of their excellent manuals: the RH Getting Started Guide (elementary stuff related to installation and configuration,) the RH Reference Guide (sounds like it has what you are looking for -- and it's the one I use most) and a RH Installation Guide, which, I presume (duh) covers only installation. I also have obtained on the net a book called Optimizing and Configuring RedHat Linux. OReilly's Running Linux is considered an excellent book. I don't have it, though, so I can't say whether it has what you want/need. That will save you the trouble of ordering a current Linux the Complete Reference from Cheapbytes or LinuxMall, etc. BTW and IMO, the RH guides are just what the doc ordered 'cause they take into account RH's ...well... peculiarities. They're available in places other that RH home, too. Try a Google search for RH62rg.html or .pdf. They might also be on one of the install CDs in html if you bought the retail copy; I don't know, I dowloaded 6.2. (Long download.) And from one newbie to another, don't surf the net as "root." It's dangerous -- and a sign that you have turnips still clinging to your clothes after falling off the truck.
